HydroMassage: Wellness done right
WHEELING — How would you like a massage every day?
At the Howard Long Wellness Center of Wheeling Hospital, you can get it. You won’t have to hit the lottery to afford it, either.
HydroMassage is now available to Howard Long Wellness Center members for a small monthly fee — and even less if they pay up front for the year. The service offers the benefits of heat, water and massage in a soothing, fully customizable system of therapy.
“You target the therapy to your needs, anywhere from your feet to you neck,” Joe Slavik, director of Howard Long Wellness Center, said. “It has an intuitive, interactive touchscreen that allows the user to control every part of the experience: speed, pressure and the specific area of massage.”
HydroMassage gives a powerful, relaxing, heated massage in as little as 10 minutes. It’s a dry hydrotherapy system that has been used for more than 20 years in facilities such as the Mayo Clinic, the U.S. Olympic Training Center and Walter Reed Army Medical Hospital.
“It’s a real stress reliever,” Slavik said. “And if you have back problems, hamstring problems, neck or shoulder issues, this can help immensely.”
HydroMassage users remain fully clothed and comfortably dry throughout their therapy. They only have to lie back in a comfortable, adjustable position while the HydroMassage system does its magic.

According to the American Massage Therapy Association, nearly half of people polled said they had considered getting a massage to help manage stress within the last year. This is one of the reasons Howard Long Wellness Center installed this technology.
“I’ve had back problems for much of my adult life,” Slavik said. “Since I’ve been using HydroMassage every day, I’ve had no more concerns. The pain is gone.”

Located at 800 Medical Park, adjacent to Wheeling Hospital, Howard Long Wellness Center is open seven days a week. Hours of operation are 5:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday-Thursday; 5:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. Fridays; 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturdays and 8:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. Sundays.
