MARTINS?FERRY – Michael and Mary Beth Lucas of Martins Ferry will be celebrating their 40th wedding anniversary today, July 31. They were united in marriage July 31, 1971, by the Rev. John J. Griffin at St. John Catholic Church, Benwood.

Mary Beth is the daughter of the late Lawrence and Rita Deegan Freeland of Benwood. She retired from Marshall County Schools after 30 years where she was employed as a speech therapist, primarily at Sherrard Elementary and Our Lady of Peace. Michael is the son of the late Paul and Dorothy Smith Lucas of Martins Ferry. He retired in June 2011 from Martins Ferry Schools. He was a math instructor at Martins Ferry High School for 41 years.

They are the parents of two sons, Josh, and his wife, Debbie, and Ryan, and his wife, Bethany. The family also includes three grandchildren: Gracie, Madelyn and Derek Lucas. The sons and their families reside in Colerain.
