NEWTON: 50th wedding anniversary
BELMONT – Dr. James Newton and Jane Newton of Belmont celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on May 21. They were married May 21, 1963 in North Carolina.
James was the Dean at Ohio University Eastern from 1983 until he retired in 2005. He still teaches part-time Internet courses at OUE.
His wife, Jane, is retired from Belmont County Department of Human Services/Child Support Division.
The Newton children, who gave the couple a reception for their anniversary, are daughter Jamie Lawler and husband, Ron, of Alpharetta, Ga.; daughter Jodie Kappers and her husband, Jacco, also of Alpharetta, Ga.; son Jason Newton and his wife Lori, of St. Clairsville; and daughter Jennifer Cook and her husband, Scott, of Seven Fields, Pa. The Newton grandchildren, who also celebrated with their grandparents, are Lacie and Lindsey Lawler; Denae, Tessa and Ellie Kappers; Ryan and Brynlee Newton; and Jack and Lily Cook. Also celebrating this special occasion were Jimmy and Renee Remsen, Jane’s brother and sister-in-law of Williamsville, NY.
The couple celebrated with a recent family gathering in Punta Gorda, Fla., the Newton’s winter home location.
