Plaza West Fest to light up St. C.

ST. CLAIRSVILLE – Fireworks will light up the skies over St. Clairsville this week, as Plaza West Fest ushers in festivities leading up to this year’s Jamboree In The Hills.

This 16th annual event presented by Riesbeck’s Food Markets, The Citizens Bank and fellow sponsors has become an annual tradition during Jamboree week. Aside from one of the biggest and best fireworks displays all year, the festivities include live music, free food and fun for the entire family. It’s a great time for all, and it’s all for a good cause, as proceeds from donations go to the United Way of the Upper Ohio Valley.

“It’s become a big community event,” said Leo Braido, director of retail at Riesbeck’s. “We’re glad to be able to work with Citizens and the other sponsors. Plaza West Fest brings folks in the area together for a nice evening of entertainment, and it’s really a good opportunity to raise funds for the United Way.”

This year’s event will take place beginning at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday in Riesbeck’s parking lot at Plaza West in St. Clairsville. In the event of rain, the festivities will take place on Thursday.

There will be free Oscar Mayer hot dogs, United Dairy Ice Cream, soft drinks provided by The Citizens Bank, Utz chips and more. Nickles Bakery and Our Family are also contributors for the food-filled extravaganza.

The Citizens Bank, Napa Auto Parts and the Health Plan of the Upper Ohio Valley help provide sponsorship for the stellar fireworks display, which will take place at dusk with Pyrotechnics by Presutti.

From 7-9:45 p.m., the band Easy Street will provide live entertainment. Also during the day, the world famous Oscar Mayer Wienermobile will be at Plaza West Fest. The Wienermobile has been to Riesbeck’s in the past, and Braido noted that it isn’t easy to get a visit from the iconic vehicle. An application process through Oscar Mayer and Kraft Foods began months ago to secure the visit at this year’s fest.

“We put in our application back in January,” said Braido. “For anyone who hasn’t seen it, it’s really quite a spectacle.”

The food and festivities are free to the public, and voluntary donations are collected for the United Way throughout the evening.

Thousands of dogs will be grilling, and hundreds of families – and fans of Jamboree In The Hills – will be flocking to the 16th annual Plaza West Fest this Wednesday. Plaza West is located just west of downtown St. Clairsville on U.S. 40 (National Road).

Contributions from those in the community that enjoy the fireworks display but are unable to attend the event onsite can be mailed to: United Way of the Upper Ohio Valley – 51 11th Street, Wheeling, W.Va. to provide funding to 30 local agencies throughout the valley.
