Center launches new school year

ST. CLAIRSVILLE Valley Christian Childcare Center recently held a ribbon cutting and open house as the facility prepared for the upcoming school year.

Valley Christian Childcare Center was established April 2011 by Rezin and Christi Howes, as a new business in place of the closing Harbor Christian Daycare where Christi was the Executive Director. Valley Christian moved into the new facility in November 2011.

Christi Howes is a licensed minister and has been working in the youth programs field since 1995.

Her husband Rezin, the director of operations, was the office manager of a local insurance company as well as a certified Executive Chef before joining VCCC. Jessica Harr, the Assistant Director, is a graduate of Ohio University Eastern with her Bachelors of Specialized Studies in Child Development and Business. Jessica joined the team in January 2012.

VCCC seeks to “provide you with a safe, loving environment for your children. An environment where your child can learn through crafts and games, equally balanced with playtime and educational development.”

Described as a family-centered facility, there are two aspects to the services offered at VCCC daycare services and early childhood education.

Harr explained preschool is for children ages 2-4 years. VCCC also offers a pre-kindergarten program for 4-5 year olds

“The classes are taught by degreed staff and prepares the children for kindergarten,” Harr stated of the pre-kindergarten program.

The classes run from 8:30-12:30, the students are able to stay before or after for daycare if the parent needs additional hours of care

The center utilizes Abeka, a Christian-based curriculum and creative curriculum, which is state aligned.

Daycare services are available for children ranging in age from infants to 5 years old. There is also before and after school care for kids ages Kindergarten through 14 years.

The facility is divided into different rooms based on age, with each outfitted to the particular needs of the various age groups.

Hours of operation are another bonus for parents.

VCCC is open Monday through Friday from 6 a.m. until 7 p.m. It’s also open on all holidays except Christmas and Thanksgiving.

“A lot of people were looking for a facility that is available all the time,” Harr touted.

There are varying rates for full time, part time and daily rates for child care. Included in that rate is a nutritious food program, snacks and all supplies.

The center has its own private bus and is able to take and pick up children before and after school that needs daycare services.

Harr explained there are age appropriate activities so the older kids are kept busy and stimulated. Tutoring services and homework assistance are also offered during school year. In the summer we offer a summer camp for all schoolagers where we take the children on three field trips per week.
