Riesbeck’s is joining the fight

ST. CLAIRSVILLE – October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and Riesbeck’s Food Markets are doing all they can to help the fight against breast cancer.

Every Friday for the month of October and November 1st, Riesbeck’s will sell lunch boxes for $4.99, and a portion of the proceeds will be donated to local groups involved in breast cancer awareness and support.

The lunch boxes will be sold from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., and customers will have their choice of three different deli sandwiches or a tossed salad, along with Utz brand potato chips, two pink iced butter cookies, potato or macaroni salad, and a bottle of water.

Customers can call ahead to order lunches or stop in.

John Chickery, Bakery Director, says that Riesbeck’s wanted the proceeds to benefit people in the areas served by their markets, so the money raised will be donated to three local groups that support breast cancer research or seek to raise awareness of the disease.

The Cancer Concern Coalition (CCC) in Muskingum County, Women in Action Against Cancer Coalition (WIAACC), and the Wheeling Park Medical Hospital Breast Cancer Center (WPMHBCC) will all benefit from Riesbeck’s donations.

Chickery said that Riesbeck’s has been running this program every October for four years, and it began when store employees involved with the CCC discussed having a fundraiser.

At first, only Riesbeck’s Zanesville location was involved, but the enthusiastic response from the community encouraged managers to expand the program to all store locations that contain a deli/bakery.

Chickery said, “it was so amazing what they were able to do…we’re very thankful for the community that supports this program”.

Chickery also stated that they have received emails and comments from customers who appreciate what Riesbeck’s is doing to help the cause.

Riesbeck’s is partnered with food supplier Delallo, which helps financially to give to the three organizations and provides lunchmeat and cheese for the sandwiches in the lunch boxes.

In addition to the lunch boxes being sold, Riesbeck’s will also have pink grocery bags throughout the month of October, embellished with the logo for breast cancer awareness.
