St. C. Chamber to hold Inaugural Annual Dinner

The St. Clairsville Area Chamber of Commerce is pleased to announce that we will be holding our Inaugural Annual Dinner and Awards presented by Wheeling Hospital. The Annual Dinner and Awards will be held on Thursday, October 9, 2014 at Ohio University Eastern beginning at 6:00 p.m. with cocktail hour. Dinner, awards and the featured speaker will follow at 7:00 p.m. This event will also serve as a celebration of the St. Clairsville Area Chamber of Commerce’s 75th anniversary of fostering a positive business climate in St. Clairsville and surrounding areas. Other Sponsors include Premier Bank & Trust, Belco Works, Inc. and Ohio University Eastern.

The featured speaker for the Inaugural Annual Dinner and Awards will be former Pittsburgh Steelers running back and Vietnam War veteran, Rocky Bleier. He is known as a hero both on the football fields of America and the battle fields of Vietnam. With the same optimism, sense of humor and steadfast determination that were his trademarks as a Pittsburgh Steelers running back, Bleier will take audiences from his early years through his professional career and talks about the lessons he learned along the way.

After being drafted by the Pittsburgh Steelers as a late round pick, Bleier was drafted again . . . this time by the United States Army. At the height of the Vietnam War, Bleier was thrust into combat early and was seriously wounded when his platoon ran into an ambush. His professional football career seemed to have ended before it began. For more than two years, he overcame obstacles and fought his way back. He not only made the Pittsburgh Steelers, but also eventually became a starting running back on a team that won four Super Bowls and became the greatest football team of the 20th century.
