Daily specials popular at Hillbilly Snack Shack

Wheeling — It’s the regular daily specials like the half steak sandwich or two chili dogs and fries that keep customers returning to the Hillbilly Snack Shack in Triadelphia, according to owner Ed McDaniels.

McDaniels said he and his wife, Tracy, opened the original Snack Shack about five years ago, which was located about 100 yards away from the new location at 6410 National Road in Triadelphia. He said they decided to open the small “family style” eatery after he retired from the United States military in 2009.

“It’s just more of a family atmosphere … with good food,” said McDaniels. He said their sliced sirloin tip steak sandwich that is fried up with green peppers, onions, mushrooms and provolone cheese is a menu favorite with customers. He said their Monday lunch special is for a half steak sandwich and fries because even the half size portion is very large, as the whole steak sandwich is 15 inches long.

McDaniels said he has tried to change his specials over the years, but because of popular demand, he keeps going back to his original specials. He said you shouldn’t try to fix something that isn’t broken.

In addition to other menu favorites such as spaghetti, fish sandwich or a large salad, they will be adding pizza and strombolis to their menu over the next few weeks.

He said the Hillbilly Snack Shack continues to be popular among the locals and gas industry workers. He said because of their location near Dallas Pike Road, they attract many employees from businesses at The Highlands for their lunch specials.
