WHEELING — The Jimmy Stewart Steak Gyro, Jimmy “The Greek” Traditional Greek Gyro and the Jimmy Cagney Chicken Gyro are just a few of the menu items offered at the newly opened Jimmy Gyro diner located on the ground floor of the former Roger’s Hotel Building on 14th Street.

In addition to gyros, the business offers pizza, fried hummus, a Greek salad and even poutine — a Canadian specialty that features fries with cheese and gravy. For an additional charge steak, chicken or beef can be added.

Owner Mark Jaber, who recently opened for business, said he provides fresh, good food for reasonable prices. He said he receives a nice-sized lunchtime crowd, and many customers stop in for take-out orders.

The walls of the diner are decorated with nearly 60 framed photos of numerous celebrities named “Jimmy,” such as: Jimmy Fallon, Jimmy Hoffa and Steubenville native Jimmy “The Greek” Snyder.

Jaber, who has been in the restaurant business for years said he was looking to open a quick-service restaurant in Wheeling.

“We wanted to do something that was quick and fast — service-wise — where people didn’t have to wait a long time,” he said. “Once you place your order, you can have it in a couple of minutes,” he added.

Located at 44 14th Street, Jaber operates the business from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., Monday-Friday; and from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturday.
