Memorial scholarship event planned

THE ANNUAL sportsman’s feast to benefit the Lucas D. Sedgmer Memorial Scholarship fund will be held Saturday, Jan. 3, at the New Athens Volunteer Fire Department.

Doors are scheduled to open at 4 p.m. with food service running from 5-7 p.m. Ticket cost is $10 per person and includes food, beverages and chances at a wide-variety of door prizes including hunting and fishing items, crafts and gift certificates.

The dinner will feature a large variety wild game dishes, chicken, fish, stews and bean soup. Carry outs are also available. D.J. Jeremy Thompson will be spinning tunes during the event and auctioneer Bill Host will provide his services for a live auction. In addition, a silent auction is scheduled along with a 50-50 raffle.

Attendees will also be able to purchase additional chances on hunting and other items.

The proceeds from the benefit support a scholarship program organized to memorialize the life of Lucas Sedgmer. A standout wrestler at Cadiz High School, Lucas was killed in a tragic automobile crash in 2003.

The scholarships are awarded annually to a wrestler from an Ohio Valley Athletic Conference (OVAC) and graduates of Harrison Central High School, the former Cadiz High School.

Tickets may be obtained by calling (740) 968-4419 or (740) 491-3049.
