Local family participates in benefit walk
Recently, Morristown mother Joyce Malson and two of her children, Denzil and Desiree, participated in the Walk4Faith at Columbus Zoo to help raise money for The Miracle of Life Support Group in St. Clairsville.
Miracle of Life was organized in July 2001 by Barb Marhefka and several of her friends to assist new mothers in financial need living in Belmont County, by providing them with cribs, diapers, baby clothing and other baby items.
Deb Mehl of St. Clairsville is the current president of the organization. St. Mary’s Church of St. Clairsville provides Miracle of Life with their office space and several community businessmen, such as Bob Whiteside, James Kacsmar and Frank Fregetio, donate their time to provide fundraising, accounting and legal services.
Baby items are provided through the donations of local businesses and individuals. Volunteers from local churches solicit donations, take referrals, make up layettes and distribute items. All donations of money or items directly help new mothers in need, as there are no administrative or overhead costs. Thousands of new mothers in Belmont County are helped through the Miracle of Life.
Malson felt that since the walk took place on Mother’s Day week-end, this was the perfect way to honor all mothers and help a very worthwhile cause. Through soliciting for sponsorship, the family raised over $189.00 for this organization.
The family would like to thank Mr. Allen, Manager of K-Mart, St. Clairsville and Father Tom Chillog of St. Mary’s Church for allowing them to solicit for donations.
If anyone is interested in making a donation of money or baby items, donations may be mailed anytime to The Miracle of Life Support Group, P.O. Box 273, 212 W. Main St., St. Clairsville, Oh 43950. New or gently used items are accepted on Wednesdays at the office located in the basement of St. Mary’s Parish Office.
