Successful gun raffle raises funds
THE GUN raffle project has finished with successfully raffling off six Henry Lever Action Octogon Barrell .22 rifles. Winners were Don Jochims of Hopedale, Mike Barrett of Tappan, Norman Capers of Bloomingdale, Walt Asbell of Jewett and Bob Yarnell of Hopedale and Gary Crawford of Adena.
The guns could also be purchased outright for $500. Several were bought this way and can still be ordered for a time yet. Contact Roy Blackburn at 740-937-2460 if interested.
Each rifle featured an etching of the Jewett Street car. A company located in Jewett for several years in the early 1900s manufactured these cars. The name “Jewett Ruritan Club” also is etched on the stock.
Chairman of this project, Roy Blackburn, would like to thank everyone who purchased tickets to support this raffle. Monies from this and other programs go to help with community projects.
The club also sponsored two jam sessions and will continue on in the Spring with these. Money will go for replacement windows for the Jewett Community Park Building.
Anyone wishing to donate towards windows may send checks or money orders to: Jewett Town Council or to the Jewett Ruritan Club, or contact president, Tom Horn, at 740-946-4464.
The Ruritans again had their trailer at the Jewett Craft show on Nov. 21. Two new members were welcomed into the club: Sheila Tipton and Kim Wade. Anyone wishing to join a group dedicated to helping the town and people of Jewett, consider coming to a meeting and seeing what we are all about. We need your help. The meetings are held on the last Thursday of each month in the basement of the Jewett Presbyterian Church.
