Garden club holds meeting
MOUNT PLEASANT – The Mount Pleasant Garden Club meeting was held recently at the Holub Farm and Greenhouse, 65938 Glencoe Rd., St. Clairsville. A luncheon at the Main Street Grill followed. In attendance were six members Jane Elliott, Ruth Lewis and husband, Anna Otto, Beverly Riddle, and Sandy Harr.
Fred Holub presented the program “Greenhouse Visit” followed by a tour of the eight greenhouses on the Holub Farm.
Trees to be planted as an Arbor Day project, with participation by the Boy Scouts, are as follows:
- One Cleveland Pear in front of the Koen residence on Union Street.
- Two trees, choices to be determined by the Church, will be planted in front of the Presbyterian Church on Union Street. The Church will finance the second tree.
Ruth Lewis and husband will purchase trees at Lowes, along with peat moss and potting soil.
Jane Elliott and Shirley Steffl will attend the Region 12 Board Meeting on April 6.
Beverly Riddle and Sandy Harr will attend the Exhibitor’s School at Deer Creek State Park on April 15-16.
Jane Elliott and Ruth Lewis will attend the Region 12 Spring Meeting on April 20 at the Hopedale Social Hall.
Watkins Products Sale fundraiser orders were submitted to Ruth Lewis.
Additional fundraisers scheduled were:
- Bake Sale on May 11, 9 a.m. to noon, Union Street in Mt. Pleasant.
- Schwan’s Sale on June 15, Union Street in Mt. Pleasant.
The 2013-2014 Program Committee will consist of Beverly Riddle, Ruth Lewis, Jane Elliott, Sandy Harr, Shirley Steffl, Annette Butler and Anna Otto.
Flowers to be planted in the flower boxes of the historical buildings on Union Street will be ordered from Holub Greenhouses and St. Mary’s Central School H.A.S.A. Red Geraniums, Million Belles in various colors, purple Petunias, green Sweet Potato Vines and Spike Plants will be planted at 9 a.m. on May 20.
