River student wins Regional Spelling Bee
MARIETTA – On Friday, March 14, 2014, Peyton Hall of River Elementary, spelled correctly through 15 rounds to be crowned 2014 Regional Spelling Bee Champion. Peyton outspelled 51 other students from eight school districts, represented at the Marietta Regional Bee, to become the champion.
Peyton will travel to Washington D.C. in May to compete in the National Spelling Bee. Peyton became the Champion Speller after correctly spelling “tortoni” and “crescendo”.
Switzerland of Ohio Schools was well represented by all six students that attended the Regional Spelling Bee. Switzerland had five students in the top twenty spellers and then three in the top ten. Breanna McElwain of Powhatan Elementary, who was the District Spelling Bee Champion, received 4th place at the Bee. Alexis Lallathin of Skyvue Elementary spelled her way to receive 6th place and fellow Skyvue student Madison Huck made it to 14th place. Breanna Tonkery of Woodsfield Elementary spelled her way to 17th place and Cheyenne Wilson rounded out the top spellers for Switzerland who attended the Bee.
This year Switzerland of Ohio School students continued a long standing tradition of being the top spellers in our region. The school district will be cheering Peyton on as he travels on to Washington D.C. in May. We want to congratulate all the spellers for their outstanding work at the Regional Spelling Bee.
