Summer events at BCDL

Summer events return to the Belmont County District Library the week of July 7th. The star of the show is the Baby Race, coming to the main library in Martins Ferry on Thursday, July 10th at 10:30 AM. Babies will crawl for the finish line with help from their cheering parents. This adorable event is sure to entertain participants and viewers alike.

The week’s Summer Reading events kick off with a second round of Discover Soil with Worms. Belmont Soil & Water Conservation District employee Kim Brewster will teach participants the science of soil with a little help from the worms who call it home. Participants will also get the chance to build a terrarium for a worm of their very own. Discover Soil with Worms will be at the main library in Martins Ferry at 11:00 AM and at the Bridgeport branch at 1:00 PM.

On Wednesday, July 9th, nationally recognized storyteller Lyn Ford will visit the Powhatan and Shadyside libraries for Tales of Earth, Sea, and Sky. Lyn’s tales are pulled from her family’s Afrilachian storytelling traditions, and they utilize techniques like call and response for a more interactive experience. Lyn will be at Powhatan at 10:00 AM and Shadyside at 1:00 PM. Lyn will also be visiting Bethesda and Victoria Read in Flushing on Friday, June 11th. She will be in Bethesda at 11:00 AM and Flushing at 1:00 PM.
