Summer reading events continue

Summer Movie Night returns to the Belmont County District Library on July 14 at 5 p.m. Come for the movie, stay for the free popcorn and drinks. This week the library will be showing the first of a pair of animated films. The sequel, which came to theaters in early spring, will be shown on July 21.

Our Summer Reading events throughout the library system include the return of Lyn Ford and her Afrilachian Tales of Earth, Sea, and Sky. Kids can enjoy her interactive, multicultural tales at the main library in Martins Ferry at 11 a.m. or at the Bridgeport branch at 1 p.m.

New events throughout the district include “Balloon Science,” coming to the Powhatan and Shadyside libraries on July 16, and “Turtles and Other Friends,” visiting Bethesda and Victoria Read in Flushing. “Balloon Science” will feature storytelling, balloon animals, and face painting as Johanna Rockwell teaches participants the science behind balloons. “Turtles and Other Friends” will welcome Nancy Lockard and at least 20 turtles, four bearded dragons, two toads, and a corn snake. Children will get the opportunity to gently pet the animals. “Balloon Science” will be at Powhatan at 10 a.m. and at Shadyside at 1 p.m. “Turtles and Other Friends” will be at Bethesda at 11 a.m. and at Flushing at 1 p.m.
