BELLAIRE — The Bellaire Police Department recently received first responder carfentanyl recovery kits from Belmont Community Hospital.

The kits will be placed in department cruisers for use in case the officers suspect that they may have come in contact with the dangerous substance.

The substance was recently discovered in an incident involving law enforcement in Belmont County. Contact with the substance is extremely dangerous. Exposure to a small amount of the substance can cause health-related complications, respiratory problems or death.

Bellaire Police Chief Mike Kovalyk recently received the kits from Belmont Community Hospital CEO John DeBlasis.

Kovalyk said his department appreciates everything the hospital does for the police department in looking out for its officers’ safety and all first responders and their contributions to the community.
