‘Christmas in the Village’ is Saturday
POWHATAN — The 12th annual Christmas in the Village of Powhatan slated Saturday will include a variety of entertainment, food and craft vendors, a parade and more.
Sandy Sisson, one of the event’s organizers, said the main event area is the Powhatan Marina, but activities will take place across the village.
For example, two different Breakfast with Santa events are slated at 8 a.m. Saturday — one at the Masonic Hall, sponsored by Captina Eastern Stars, and another at American Legion Post 228, sponsored by the Ladies Auxilliary.
At 7 p.m. today, a community worship service is planned at the Powhatan United Methodist Church, 169 Main St.
“New this year to the festival will be inflatable games, soccer and ‘Knock It Off’ prizes can be won. We will have our favorites: Tricky Chaz, Niki face painting, Balloon Ovations, Capes & Tiaras characters, Pony and Train Rides, the River High School Art Department will be doing face painting at Parish Hall, inflatables and lots more,” Sisson said. “There will be lots of food favorites at churches, organizations, businesses and at the main event area at the marina.”
A Veterans Day Memorial Ceremony also is slated to take place at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Powhatan Marina near the flag pole, sponsored by VFW Post 5565, American Legion Post 228. There will be several speakers and vocalists Addison Kovach and Sydney Bolt are scheduled to perform.
At 6:30 p.m. Saturday, the Powhatan VFD and EMS Parade is slated.
The entertainment schedule also includes:
∫ 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. — Crafters at marina.
∫ 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. — Food vendors at marina, including Max’s Concessions, G&B Concessions, Domino’s Pizza, Cumberland Trail Kettlecorn, Undo’s and Just Smokin’; DJ Daner music; and
The Kids Zone, which includes inflatables, train ride, pony rides, balloon ovations, Tricky Chaz, Face Painting, Bubble Wagon, Capes & Tiaras characters and more.
∫ 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. — Food by St. John Central at St. John Vianney Hall, where there will also be music by vocalists Joe Mastracci from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and Marie Ducci from 1:30-2:30 p.m. The hall will also have a Kids Zone from 1-4 p.m. featuring Selfies With Santa, Balloon Man and face painting.
