St. Clairsville theater arson fire investigation still underway
ST . CLAIRSVILLE — The Ohio State Fire Marshal’s Office still is investigating an arson fire that occurred last month at the AMC movie theater at the Ohio Valley Mall.
The fire occurred Dec. 12 at the theater with Cumberland Trail Fire District and several other fire departments responding. Upon arrival, they discovered the fire was mostly out and just smoldering. It appeared someone tried to set fire to a curtain at the back of a movie screen.
The theater was not open for business at the time, and no one was injured.
Tim Hall, assistant chief with Cumberland Trail, said Thursday that his department had not yet heard back from the state office about the latest on the investigation.
“It was declared an arson and is an ongoing investigation,” he said.
A call to the fire marshal’s office was not returned late Thursday.
Firefighters responded to the fire alarm at the cinema at 10:16 a.m. Dec. 12. There was no major smoke or water damage, as the damaged occurred only on the curtain. The cinema’s fire system detected the blaze, and firefighters were automatically dispatched.
In addition to Cumberland Trail, firefighters assisting included those from Barton, Wolfhurst and Neffs, along with ladder trucks from Martins Ferry and Bellaire. The Belmont County Sheriff’s Department also was at the scene that day.
