Youth bound for American Legion Buckeye Boys State
HANNIBAL — Ian Eller, a junior at River High School, has been selected by American Legion Post 228 to participate in American Legion Buckeye Boys State, an eight-day intensive education program on Ohio government for high school students where each participant takes part in the operation of a mythical 51st state’s local, county and state government.
At American Legion Buckeye Boys State, participants are exposed to the rights, privileges, duties and responsibilities of a franchised citizen. The training is objective, practical and non-partisan with the mock city, county and state governments operated by students elected to the various offices. Activities include legislative sessions, court proceedings, law enforcement presentations, assemblies, a band and recreation. High school juniors are selected by local American Legion posts.
American Legion Buckeye Boys State will be held June 10-17 on the campus of Miami University in Oxford, Ohio.
Legion Post 228 is located at 279 State Hwy. 7 North, Powhatan Point. Complete details on The American Legion Buckeye Boys State program are available at www.ohio buckeyeboysstate.com.
