Lighted Christmas parade scheduled

CADIZ — The 2018 Cadiz Lighted Christmas Parade will be held at 6 p.m. Saturday.

The parade is sponsored by the Cadiz Business Association and is chaired by Shelley Coffelt with co-chairpeople Joelle Bensie and village Police Chief Ryan McCann. The parade starts promptly at 6 p.m.

The tree-lighting ceremony will take place at 5:30 p.m. prior to the start of the parade. The CBA is proud to share the new Snow People at the Square display surrounding the tree with smiling faces.

Cash prizes will be awarded for the Best Float, Best Walking, Best Vehicle, Judge’s Choice and People’s Choice categories. Certificates will be presented to all high school marching bands who participate in the parade.

Awards also will be given for uptown and outlying business window decorations. Businesses wishing to be included in the judging need to have their decorations up before 5pm on November 28th.

Local businesses can also participate by making a $50 sponsorship, which will be recognized on the main stage. All proceeds will go toward parade costs and providing a small gift, punch and cookies for children visiting Santa after the parade.

Deadline for parade entries or stage participation is Tuesday. For more information, call Coffelt at 330-328-6517 or Bensie at 740-942-1102.

After the parade, visitors can enjoy the drive through Christmas Card Lane, en route to a party hosted by the Cadiz Business Association and Carriage Inn of Cadiz where Santa will greet children at Wallace Lodge in Sally Buffalo Park. Cadiz Lions Club will provide cocoa and hot dogs.

Earlier in the day, the Cadiz Lions will serve up a pancake breakfast from 8-11a.m. at Wallace Lodge, where the 11th annual Christmas shopping open house takes place 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. with Mindy Madzia chairing the event. Crafters will be in the lodge throughout the day and will feature jewelry, baskets, crafts, bags, baked goods and candles. The list of vendors keeps growing. For more information on the open house, call Mindy Madzia at 330-340-3192.

Meanwhile, Cadiz businesses will compete again for best holiday decorations. There will be two areas judged, as in the past: the Uptown Central Business District (two blocks in each direction from the town square), and the Outlying Business Area (outside the Uptown Central Business District, but within a 3-mile radius of the square).

Cash prizes will be awarded for first and second places in the following categories: Uptown Flat Window, Uptown Storefront/Display Window, Outlying Business Area Display.

To ensure being judged, businesses in the outlying area should call the Harrison County Visitors Center at 740-942-1102 and confirm their participation. Decorations must be in place no later than 5 p.m. Wednesday. Winners will be announced and cash prizes awarded in each category during the parade.
