Martins Ferry Christian School hosted the Belmont County Christian Consortium Spelling Bee on Tuesday. Participants were from East Richland Christian Schools and Martins Ferry Christian School. First place was awarded to Gracie Crumm, a seventh-grade student at East Richland. Rachael Lampert, a fifth-grader, also from ERCS, earned second place. The top two finishers in each district bee both advance to the Belmont County Spelling Bee, which will be held at 7 p.m. Feb. 7 at Ohio University Eastern, St. Clairsville. Sponsored by The Times Leader, The Health Plan, Airport Limousine, Belmont Savings Bank, Uniglobe Ohio Valley Travel and the East Central Ohio Educational Service Center, the county bee is an opportunity for the winner to qualify for the Scripps National Spelling Bee, held in May each year in Washington, D.C.
