New county amateur radio emergency coordinator named


Frank Wojewodka is the new amateur radio emergency coordinator for Belmont County.

He was appointed by the American Radio Relay League. The emergency coordinator is the person responsible for the ARES group at the local level. Working with local community officials, the section emergency coordinator and other field appointees, the EC leads his or her local ARES group through planning, preparedness and response phases. Wojewodka is a volunteer with the Belmont County Emergency Management Agency and is a former firefighter with the Wheeling Fire Department. He is licensed at the General class in amateur radio by the FCC. He is assisted in his work by his canine buddy Hammie.

Amateur radio operators have been valuable during disasters, providing up-to-date condition reports from throughout the region to the EMA. Previous emergency coordinators include Ike Price, Bud Russell and John Green.
