Two brothers detained in stabbing case

CADIZ Two Harrison County brothers are in custody after the pair was wanted in connection with a stabbing in Canton.

Active warrants had been issued for Charles D. Burghy, 22, and his 20-year-old brother Joseph A. Burghy, both of Cadiz, and the duo was apprehended on Friday one in Cadiz and the other in Jewett.

The older brother was sought on a felonious assault charge after he allegedly used a hunting knife to stab Gregory R. Heintzelman, 25, of Fulton Road NW, Canton. He was located on Friday afternoon by Jewett Police Chief Ron Carter after a lengthy search of the area following a tip on his whereabouts.

His younger brother was taken into custody in Cadiz earlier that morning. He was wanted on charges of complicity to felonious assault.

Cadiz Police Chief Bryan Dowdle noted several local agencies, including the Harrison County Sheriff’s Office and Jewett Police Department, assisted his department in searching and locating the suspects.

According to reports out of the Canton Police Department, one of the Burghy brothers was in a fight with Heintzelman and other people became involved. At that point in time, authorities believe that Charles stabbed in victim several times with a knife.

The pair is currently being held in the Harrison County Jail awaiting transport to Canton.

The victim remains hospitalized in the intensive care unit of a Canton hospital.
