I-70 east closed near Zanesville, five die in crash

ZANESVILLE- The Zanesville Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol is currently investigating a two-vehicle head-on crash that occurred in the eastbound lanes of Interstate 70 near milepost 147 in Muskingum County.

The initial investigation indicates that a car traveling in the westbound lanes crossed the median and struck a minivan traveling eastbound head-on. All five passengers in the car are confirmed dead. The driver of the minivan is in serious condition and has been transported from the scene by EMS personnel. The passenger of the minivan appears to be uninjured at this time.

The crash is still under investigation and identities of the deceased will be released pending next-of-kin notification.

I-70 eastbound is currently closed from the Brownsville Road exit in Licking County. Traffic is being rerouted on State Route 668 north to US 40 east. Traffic to I-70 reopens at Zanesville exit 152 in Muskingum County.
