Man extricated from home dies

BELLAIRE – Richard Hughes, the 43-year-old man who was removed from his house on Sunday, has reportedly died at Wheeling Hospital.

Firefighters and a police officer had to cut a side out of a home Sunday to extricate a man from his residence on the 2800 block of Washington Street.

Firefighters from the Neffs Fire Department were first responders to the scene after receiving a call of a general illness. When they got there they had to call Bellaire Police for assistance to help get Hughes out of the house, who is described as being overly obese.

All told, seven emergency personnel were on the scene.

Police said the man had been in the same chair for two years and was sitting in his own feces and urine and was living in what was said to be deplorable conditions.
