Accident closes I-470

THE Ohio State Highway Patrol in St. Clairsville investigated two accidents with injuries on Sunday,

The first accident happened a 11:40 a.m on I-470 in Pultney Township when Daniel R. Roush of Malta, Ill., struck a 2003 Ford Econoline driven by Bonnie A. Kortrey, 47, of Highland Park, N.J.

According to the report, both vehicles were eastbound. Kortrey slowed for traffic while Roush failed to slow and struck Kortrey’s van. A trooper said the van flipped over, causing minor injuries.

The tractor-trailer ran into the cable barrier which separates the east and westbound lanes. It was reported that the injured persons refused treatment.

Roush was cited for improper lane change. Both lanes of I-470 were closed for a time as crews cleaned up the wreck.

The second accident happened at 6 p.m. on I-70 in Union Township.

According to the report, Lecia K. Ciroli, 65, of 67330 Ebbert South, St. Clairsville, was driving a 2007 Hyundai and was eastbound. Garri R. Simonyants, 49, of 12706 Vinings Creek, Matthews, N.C., was driving a 2006 Kenworthy and was eastbound in the left lane and was passing Ciroli’s car. Simonyants changed lanes and struck Ciroli’s vehicle.

Ciroli lost control, went off the right side of the road, struck the embankment and overturned. Simonyants was cited for assured clear distance ahead. Ciroli was taken to the Ohio Valley Medical Center by the Cumberland Trail Emergency Squad.
