Solovan hands down sentences
ST. CLAIRSVILLE Several sentences were handed down in Belmont County Common Pleas Court Friday.
Judge John M. Solovan II presided.
Daniel Patrick Eden, 26, 953 Clark Ridge Road, Sistersville, WV, was sentenced on one count of attempted robbery, a felony of the third degree, occurring Jan. 9, 2012. He was sentenced to 24 months in the penitentiary.
Defense asked Solovan to consider Eden’s psychiatric evaluation and disorders and his pattern of drug and alcohol abuse.
Solovan noted Eden’s recklessness and lack of remorse for a crime that left the victim physically, psychologically and emotionally harmed during the incident, during which she was dragged on the street by a car operated by himself and another during an attempt to steal her purse.
“You’re deserving of a penitentiary sentence when you attempt to rob a woman and she’s been hurt in the process,” he said.
He added that judicial release would be a possibility.
Barbara Barcus, 54, 67912 Hoover Avenue, Bridgeport, was sentenced on one count of trafficking in cocaine, a felony of the fifth degree occurring Aug. 25, 2011. She was given three years of community control sanctions and up to 120 days in jail, followed by six months EOCC, to be served concurrently with her current sentence.
John Patrick Rupert, 42, 1657 Belmont St., Bellaire, pleaded guilty to one count of gross sexual imposition on a child younger than 13, a felony of the third degree. He had been convicted of an identical charge, both occurring May, 2011. He faces a maximum of 10 years and classification as a Tier 2 offender. A pre-sentence investigation and victim impact statement were ordered. Sentencing was set for Aug. 31.
A warrant was issued for Beverly Jean Phillips, 48, Martins Ferry.
