Harrison Hills board swears in new member

CADIZ The Harrison Hills City Board of Education held a special meeting Tuesday to swear in Betty Hugh as a new board member.

She will continue the term of Robert Hugh, her husband, who recently passed away. The term extends through Dec. 31, 2013.

“I humbly accept the board decision to finish out the term of my husband,” she said. “This is a bittersweet time for me and I would much rather be supporting him from behind, but by the same token he accepted the responsibility for his term and since he can’t finish it, I am willing to do this for him and the Harrison City School District. With God’s help I will do the best I can to finish his term and serve the district and the students.”

Board members noted her long-time involvement with school activities and devotion to children along with her husband, who was a lifelong educator.

“We’re glad to have her onboard. I think she’ll be an asset,” said Board Member Melvin Allen.

“She will have the best interests of the children and the school district at heart,” said Board Member Judy Crawshaw.

“I’m really honored she accepted,” said Board Member Phil Madzia.
