Second football field vandalized
VANDALS STRUCK the Irish Youth Sports football field on Union Street in Bellaire sometime over the weekend, according to a report from the Bellaire Police Department. The incident was reported to Police Chief Mike Kovalyk on Tuesday.
Rick Paolina, president of Irish Youth Sports, reported that a 50-foot by10-foot banner was vandalized and stolen from the side of an equipment trailer. The vinyl banner was a promotional educational sign against underage drinking, promoted by Anheuser Bush and Muxie Distributing.
The banner had the logo for Monster Energy drinks and the slogan, “Prevent Don’t Provide.”
The banner was valued at $2,000. Officers were making contact with an industrial complex next to the Irish Sports complex to check with their surveillance equipment.
The incident was the second act of vandalism at a football field in Bellaire.
Over the weekend, vandals struck Nelson Field, and several areas were spray painted with black ink with derogatory statements toward the Bellaire Big Reds team, coaches and the Bellaire community.
Both incidents remain under investigation.
