Rash of local accidents reported

THREE Belmont County accidents Saturday afternoon have left several people hospitalized.

Two of the wrecks occurred in Martins Ferry within a couple of hours of each other. They were both at the intersection of Hanover Street and Ohio 7.

However, the most serious accident happened on Interstate 70 near the County Road 214 exit.

According to a dispatcher at the Ohio Highway Patrol, a 2010 Lexus was headed eastbound near exit 220 when the driver allegedly lost control on rain-slickened roads. The car rolled over and one passenger was ejected, while another was trapped inside the vehicle until emergency crews arrived on the scene.

The dispatcher said five people in all were injured, with one being “very critical.”

There was no condition on any of the injured as The Times Leader went to press late Saturday night.

IN MARTINS Ferry, city police are investigating a pair of afternoon accidents.

The first happened at 11:14 a.m. when four vehicles collided. EMS crews treated some people for injuries, while emergency responders closed the southbound lanes for approximately an hour while debris were cleaned off the roadway.

It was unclear how many people were treated for their injuries.

The second accident was reported 1-hour, 35-minutes later when two vehicles were involved in a crash. Several people were injured, but the seriousness was not disclosed.

LATE Friday night, an accident in Bridgeport on National Road had traffic backed up for several hours.

No additional information was given.
