Bridgeport Junior High students aid Heartland seniors
BRIDGEPORT – The Gifted and Talented eighth grade class at Bridgeport Junior High School is making sure that senior citizens at Heartland Nursing Home have warm feet this winter.
In conjunction with The Times Leader’s Socks for Seniors program, the students are collecting new socks that will be distributed at Heartland.
“We thought this would be a good community service project for us to try,” teacher Susie Diehl said. “The students are really into it.”
According to Diehl, the students have made posters for the project, which is currently under way and will be until mid-December.
“We are already making plans for this project,” Diehl noted. “We are planning on holding the collection until Dec. 18.”
When asked if they had a goal, several students replied, “At least 100 pair of socks. No less.”
Students taking part in the project include Deja Massey, Josie Bugaj, Jasmine Rodgers, Danielle Dawson, Mia Leffler, Alex Russell, Sydney Kloss, Cody Krol, Hannah Patroski, Matt Herink, Treavon Clark, Katelin Clemont and Morgan Eddy.
” We are in partnership with Heartland and we’ve got several other little projects going on as well,” Diehl said.
