Strong turnout in Harrison
CADIZ – Harrison County saw a strong turnout this Election Day. The official count will be released Nov. 19. A total of 90 provisional ballots were on the official count, with 25 received prior to Election Day. According to election board officials, of the 18,026 registered voters in the county’s 16 precincts, 4,971 ballots were cast before absentees. Absentee ballots total 2,173.
Several incumbent officials ran unopposed in the race.
Sheriff Ronald Joe Myers received 5,750 votes.
Prosecutor T. Shawn Hervey received 4,986 votes.
Clerk of Courts Leslie A. Milliken received 5,210 votes.
County Engineer Robert Sterling received 5,222 votes.
County Court Judge Mark Beetham received 5,332 votes.
Meanwhile, numerous area levies were approved.
The Cadiz Township replacement levy passed with 990 votes or 63.18 percent in favor to 577, or 36.82 percent against.
Two Freeport village additional levies passed. One saw with 76 votes, or 52.41 percent to 69 votes, or 47.59 percent against. The second levy saw 78 votes, or 53.06 percent, in favor to 69 votes, or 46.94 percent against.
The Rumley Township renewal levy passed with 378 votes, or 64.84 percent, to 205 votes, or 35.16 percent in opposition.
Two North Township renewal levies passed, one with 396 votes, or 62.36 percent, to 239 votes, or 37.64 percent. The second levy passed with 458 votes, or 71.67 percent, to 181 votes, or 28.33 percent.
The Jewett village replacement levy passed with 142 votes, or 55.25 percent, to 115 votes, or 44.75 percent.
The Nottingham Township replacement levy passed with 107 votes, or 66.05 percent, to 55 votes, or 33.95 percent.
Two Monroe Township renewal levies passed, one with 343 votes, or 68.60 percent, to 157 votes or 31.40 percent. The second levy received 322 votes, or 65.45 percent, to 170 votes, or 34.55 percent.
Meanwhile, Bowerston’s proposed replacement levy failed, with 78 votes, or 53.79 percent, against, to 67 votes, or 46.21 percent, in favor.
The Jewett village replacement levy with 132 votes, or 51.97 percent, to 122 votes, or 48.03 percent, against.
Moorefield Township’s two renewal levies passed. One received 151 votes, or 77.04 percent, to 45 votes, or 22.96 percent.
The second levy passed with 134 votes, or 67.68 percent, to 64 votes, or 32.32 percent.
However, Harrison voters roundly rejected proposed school levies.
The Buckeye Joint Vocational School District replacement levy was voted down by the two voting precincts, with 303 votes, or 59.18 percent, against, to 209 votes, or 40.82 percent, in favor.
The Conotton Valley Union Local School District additional levy was rejected by the three voting precincts, with 356, or 56.51 percent, opposed, and 274, or 43.49 percent, in favor.
The Buckeye Local School District additional levy was voted down by the two voting precincts, with 223 votes, or 54.79 percent, in opposition, and 184 votes, or 45.21 percent, in support.
The Edison Local School District additional levy hit a 50/50 split, with the one voting precinct giving 23 votes in favor and 23 in opposition.
The Jefferson County Joint Vocational School District additional levy was rejected by three voting precincts with 253 votes, or 56.85 percent, opposed to 192 votes, or 43.15 percent, in support.
