Costine sworn in
ST. CLAIRSVILLE – Attorney Eric Costine donned a robe Friday when he was sworn in as Belmont County Western Court Judge. He was elected this past November.
He was sworn in by his brother, Probate and Juvenile Court Judge J. Mark Costine. He succeeds Judge Harry W. White, who served as Western Court Judge for 34 years. Costine said he is proud to follow in White’s footsteps and intends to be a fair, dedicated and unbiased judge of the court.
He credited his supporters for their energy in creating momentum in his campaign.
Costine has served in the county’s public defender office for the past 20 years and has managed the office.
“In my years at that office I have grown and learned. I am a very busy person and am in literally every court in the county nearly every week,” he said, noting that he and his brother are proud to be serving together as judges of Belmont County.
He is the son of John O. and Phyllis H. Costine. His family’s law practice began in the 1920s. He attended Otterbein College, University of Florida and obtained his law degree from Ohio Northern University in 1985. He lives in St. Clairsville with his three daughters.
