Life sentence for Armstrong
ST. CLAIRSVILLE – David Wayne Armstrong, 24, 68137 Hammond Road, St. Clairsville was given a life sentence on two counts rape of a child younger than 13, a felony of the first degree occurring 2011. Armstrong was accused of raping two 10-year-old boys.
Armstrong will serve two concurrent life sentences with no option for parole for 10 years.
He will be designated a Tier Three offender.
The mother of one victim addressed Armstrong and the court.
She spoke of the long lasting mental and emotional harm to her child.
“There is no punishment in today’s justice system that would be sufficient enough. A life sentence isn’t long enough and the death penalty is too easy. You stole my son’s innocence and caused a lifetime of nightmares,” she said. “Forgiveness is not an option.”
Prosecutor Chris Berhalter credited the two victims for coming forward, as well as Detective Andrea Gatti’s investigation.
“This contact would still be occurring today but for those factors,” he said. “What this defendant to these two young victims and what he took from them, it’s clear to the state that the only appropriate sentence is on that includes life imprisonment.”
Solovan noted the seriousness of the crime, adding that Armstrong was characterized by denials, attempts to shift blame, and a lack of genuine remorse.
Armstrong chose not to speak.
