Red Devils honored by BOE

ST. CLAIRSVILLE – The Saint Clairsville School Board of Education commended the efforts of the 14-1 Red Devils football team this past week, recognizing members of the senior class on their memorable fall run into the Ohio High School playoffs, where they ended their run as State Runner-ups, falling to the eventual State Champions.

“The Board just wants to extend recognition to this great group of young men, and lady. They took not only Saint Clairsville, but also the whole Valley on quite a ride this fall. For that, we say thank you.” praised Superintendent Walter Skaggs.

As the end of the year approaches, finances were discussed and approved in preparation of moving into year 2013. All of the Districts financial budgets and bills for the conclusion of the year were discussed and approved. An agreement with Huntington National Bank was given the nod for Deposit of Public Funds offering the District more attractive financial aspects.

Companies across Saint Clairsville were especially generous, as the Red Devils football fever spread this past month. Donations totaling close to $12,000 was contributed to various aspects of the extracurricular departments and facilities, with hometown Jenkins supporting via hefty donations for the Weight Room fund.

Approval was given to transfer the remaining funds from the Class of 2012 to this year’s senior class account.

The Boys Basketball and Class of 2018 budgets were approved for future business.

The Board approved joining the OSBA Legal Assistance Fund for the calendar year 2013, authorizing the fee to be included in the effort.

Sharon Malin and Whitney Lewis were approved as Aides, Dawn Kobus for the Cafeteria, Sherry Jozwiak for Secretary duties, and Jane Osterman for Secretary and Bus Driver positions.

Dena Gross approved a Certified Substitute for Speech and Tutor.

Alicia McKeever was approved as the Title I Coordinator for the school year.

Mary Gibson was given the nod for Orientation and Mobility services for visually impaired students.

Re-appointment of Debbie Gordon was approved beginning a new seven year term as a Trustee of the Library Board.

A post audit meeting will be held January 13th at 10am to discuss this year’s audit.

Saint Clairsville police officer, Jeff Gadzik was on hand to present the District with updated Emergency Management Plans highlighting all the buildings, their layouts, and pictures hundreds of aspects of the building. The plan was developed over the past year, with Saint Clairsville High School being the first in the area, to complete the news updates to the plans.

Upgrades continue as a couple high school labs are being renovated. The Elementary roof is receiving attention, again, as another problem area was spotted heading into the winter months.

The Boys high school basketball team will open up a pair of home opener games tonight against Edison, with another early season match up tomorrow evening against Africentric School.
