Barnesville council OKs project

BARNESVILLE-The Village of Barnesville is beginning the new year by supporting a new residential project.

Council members adopted Resolution #3583, giving their approval to the WODA Group, LLC to redevelop the property now known as Barnesville Commons.

The WODA Group will use tax credits to develop 60 multi-family housing units and name it Summerton Place. The company, based in Westerville, owns and manages seven affordable housing properties in Belmont County.

Mayor Ron Bischof announced the council committees for 2013. They are as follows: Finance, Contract and Ordinance, Terry McCort, Dale Bunting, Tony Johnson; Safety, Brad Hudson, Johnson, Bill Stottler; Cemetery, Stottler, McCort, Johnson; Street and Alley, Johnson, Bunting, John Jefferis; Buildings and Grounds, Jefferis, Bunting, Hudson; Park and Recreation, Bunting, McCort, Johnson; Personnel, McCort, Stottler, Hudson; Water and Sewer, Bunting, Jefferis, Stottler.

Council members gave Police Chief Dave Norris authority to send out for bids for a new police vehicle if it becomes necessary to do so. They also approved the hiring of a part-time dispatcher for the police department and amended Ordinance #3582, section 141.01, allowing dispatchers to be paid for six holidays currently approved for emergency staff.

Members approved Appropriations Ordinance #3584 for 2013 in the amount of $5,160,612.00.

Councilman John Jefferis brought up the water line project on Ohio 800 to the Eastern Ohio Regional Industrial Park. Members have discussed extending town water to the Interstate 70 interchange, but have not formally approved it. Jefferis suggested that revenue from water sales out of Slope Creek could help fund the extension. Councilman Brad Hudson likes the idea of the additional line, saying that it would promote business development in that area. Members would like to get solid estimates from the contractor and discuss the project again with Larry Merry of the Belmont County Port Authority.

The Barnesville Village Council meets every other Monday at 7 p.m.
