Cheap Smokes robbery suspect being arraigend
A BETHESDA man who allegedly robbed Bob’s Cheap Smokes on National Road, St. Clairsville, two weeks ago, was scheduled to appear for arraignment in Northern Division Court today.
Benjamin S. Fador, 36, of 319 S. Main St., was arrested by deputies late Wednesday and was booked into the county jail on a charge of aggravated robbery. Bond was set at $20,000.
According to Belmont County Sheriff David Lucas, a man wearing a black ski hat held up the store, and he was armed with a small handgun. He demanded cash from the clerk.
The robber sped away in a red van.
Lucas said Fador walked into the store on Wednesday, made a purchase and the original victim turned around, noticed him and positively identified him. Fador left the store, and the Belmont County 911 emergency system was called.
Responding to the call were the St Clairsville police, Ohio State Highway Patrol and the Belmont County Sheriff’s Office.
An officer stopped Fador by a store on National Road and from there, he was taken to jail.
Lucas said the case remains under investigation.
