Mall welcomes Boscov’s

ST. CLAIRSVILLE – Ohio Valley Mall officials announced Thursday that a national retailer, Boscov’s, will make its Ohio debut, filling the space that J.C. Penney’s and Levin Furniture once occupied.

Boscov’s currently has 42 stores in Pennsylvania, New York, New Jersey, Maryland and Delaware. This is the first store in Ohio.

It will occupy 180,000 square feet and is scheduled to open in October.

Boscov’s is the largest family-owned department store chain and is currently celebrating 102 years of doing business. One of the unique points that Boscov’s will bring to the customers of the Ohio Valley Mall is a wide selection of merchandise, competitive prices and superior service along with a few bonuses such as free gift wrapping and contests. The store opening will bring 300 jobs to the residents of the Ohio Valley.

Belmont County commissioners, Sheriff Dave Lucas, along with many others turned out for the announcement.

“Everyone has been asking us what is to come of the former J.C. Penney’s store and we have been working diligently, we’ve been working for several years now, though we would have preferred the space to be filled a little sooner, but good things come to those who wait,” said Anthony Cafaro Jr. “Today, we are here to make good on the promise and I am thrilled to tell you we are welcoming Boscov’s to our line up of great merchants here at Ohio Valley Mall.”

Albert and Jim Boscov were in attendance.

Albert serves as the chairman and CEO of the company and Jim the vice chair. Albert will be the first person inducted into the Pennsylvania Retail Hall of Fame. Cafaro claims that Albert is a real pioneer of the retail industry.

“This will be our first step into Ohio and it is really a very good first step,” said Albert. “We are very excited about the market, we are excited about the people and we are certainly excited about the Mall. Boscov’s is a slightly different then most of your retailers.”
