Tittle goes to trial in rape case

ST. CLAIRSVILLE – During Belmont County Common Pleas Court proceedings Monday, the defense informed Judge Jennifer L. Sargus that Jared Luke Tittle, 38, 325 21st St., Bellaire, will likely not come to agreement with the prosecution before the plea agreement deadline.

The case will go to trial May 16. He is accused of rape of a child younger than 10, a felony of the first degree occurring Sept. 10, 2010. Tittle will appear in further status conferences Feb. 19 and April 29.

He faces a life sentence.

In other matters, Dane Anthony Jenewein, 25, 54215 Cove Road, Powhatan Point, pleaded guilty to possession of drugs, a felony of the fourth degree occurring Oct. 16, 2011. Sentencing was set for March 4. A pre-sentence investigation was ordered. He faces a maximum of 18 months.

Thomas Allen Smith, 40, of Neffs, currently incarcerated, pleaded guilty to two counts of burglary, a felony of the second degree occurring Sept. 15, 2012, and one count receiving stolen property, a felony of the fifth degree. Sentencing was set for Feb. 19. A pre-sentencing investigation, victim impact statement and EOCC evaluation were ordered. He faces a maximum sentence of more than 16 years.
