Abdalla slated to speak at Buckeye BOE

YORKVILLE – The Schlernitzauer Apartment building on Market Street in Yorkville will be the host site for Monday’s regular monthly meeting of the Buckeye Local School District Board of Education which is set to begin at 6 p.m.

Immediately prior to the 6 p.m. start of the board meeting will be a brief work session which begins at 5:30 p.m. It will focus on the details of the athletic director’s position.

Jefferson County Sheriff Fred Abdalla is expected to attend the regular board meeting and is registered as the first speaker during the initial public participation portion of the meeting, which is tied to agenda-related topics only.

A representative of Jefferson Security is also pre-registered to address the board during the public participation portion of the meeting, tough no details have been shared in advance concerning exactly what the representative plans to discuss.

Buckeye Local School District Superintendent of Schools Mark Miller confirmed late Friday he expects Sheriff Abdalla to specifically share details of his position on the importance of having professionally trained, experienced, and skilled resource officers regularly available throughout the district’s buildings.

Buckeye Local School District has had a dedicated resource officer, who is an experienced deputy from within the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department staff, as part of its in-house school safety program structure for a number of years.

One of two monthly educational reports to be presented by district officials at Monday’s meeting will feature school safety information relevant to the local school district, and will be presented by Jason Kovalski.
