Animals rescued from farm

MORE THAN 100 malnourished animals were found on the farm of an alleged animal hoarder on Spring Hill Road outside Bellaire on Tuesday.

The Humane Society, Belmont County Animal Rescue League and deputies from the Belmont County Sheriff’s Office raided the farm. The property owner, identified as Sandra Fanti, of 57830 Spring Hill Road, Bellaire, was removed from the property. She was taken to the Belmont County Jail where she was booked on charges of persistent disorderly conduct and obstructing official business. Bond was set at $1,000.

It was reported the woman had a large number of cats, dogs, horses, chickens and goats. The total number of cats is reportedly 88.

Authorities said it is a situation they have been watching for years. On Tuesday, they found more than 100 malnourished animals on the property.

The animals are in need of food, water and good care. The Humane Society brought in many trailers and a truck full of pet carriers. Veterinarians were also brought to the scene. Authorities said the animals were to be taken to a safe location where they will be treated, rehabilitated and eventually adopted out.

Sheriff David Lucas said, “We don’t want to punish the woman. We want to get the animals in a better, healthier environment.”
