JB?Green Team raises approved
STEUBENVILLE — The JB Green Team trustees approved a 2 percent pay raise Monday night retroactive to April 1 for all employees with a year of service and set the stage for a one year job performance evaluation for Executive Director Cliff Meyer.
“All board members have received an evaluation form. I am asking for everyone to complete the forms and the personnel committee will make a recommendation to the full board at our June meeting. We will decide if we offer Cliff another one year contract and a longer contract,” explained Chairman Bob Chapman.
In other business Monday night, Meyer informed the board members he has given the Apex Sanitary Landfill two weeks to pay approximately $68,000 in late fines.
Fiscal Officer Dave Hays said the landfill is up to date with its monthly tonnage tipping fees but has not paid the late fees from last year, when the landfill didn’t pay its monthly fees on time.
- “I have put the landfill on notice they have to pay those late fees by the end of next week,” reported Meyer.
Meyer also told the board he is continuing plans to expand the solid waste authority’s glass recycling business.
“As we do this we also need to educate the public on what should be placed in the glass recycling containers. We currently send glass in our recyclable materials to Pittsburgh, where we are charged for every ton of glass plus a $70 processing fee. By removing the glass from that recycling stream and sending it to Cleveland we are getting more value,” explained Meyer.
Meyer said the JB Green Team is offering containers to bars and restaurants in Jefferson and Belmont counties and is looking at adding glass recycling containers at certain drop-off sites.
Meyer told the board to consider renewing an advertising contract with Em-Media or seek bids.
“We plan to start a litter program in both counties later this year. So we need to educate residents on the consequences of littering. We also have to submit our solid waste plan to the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency and we will have to explain that plan to the communities, said Meyer.
The trustees met for more than an hour in executive session and re-opened the meeting to announce the boards executive committee will meet with Myer to review the organizations hiring policy and the program directors for Jefferson and Belmont counties current compensation.
The trustees also approved a resolution to participate in the state of Ohios purchasing program and to approve purchasing procedures proposed by Meyer.
