New gazebo built in Bellaire

A new gazebo popped up in Bellaire Park just in time for the village’s All-American Days, set for June 6-8 in the park.

Residents driving through the village Wednesday afternoon may have been surprised to see the structure’s sudden appearance along 34th Street across from the Bellaire Local School District administrative offices.

Volunteers started at about 5:45 a.m. to construct the gazebo, and it was completed just after 2 p.m., according to Lou Ann Bennett, organizer for Bellaire All-American Days.

“And the cost to the city was zero,” she noted. “It was funded through private donations.”

A ribbon-cutting for the gazebo will take place at the start of All-American Days at 5 p.m. June 6, when the donors will be announced, Bennett added.

“It was a labor of love,” said Gloria LeMasters, also a festival organizer. “There was so much dedication by the volunteers. They all have jobs.”

Mayor Vince DeFabrizio was among those volunteering during the construction.

“Come see our new gazebo,” he said. “We want everybody to come enjoy it because it’s for everybody.”

Residents will be able to schedule use of the gazebo for weddings, picnics and parties, he said. It is also expected to be the setting for many photos of those graduating from nearby Bellaire High School in the coming years.

Bands also will set up in the gazebo for such events as Bellaire All-American Days, Bennett said.

All nonprofit organizations are welcome to set up a table at the festival for free. Call 740-676-4817 for reservations or for more information. The festival is still accepting vendors and crafters.

Advance ride wrist band tickets are now on sale for the festival. They are available at the Bellaire mayor’s office, 3197 Belmont St., or at the Bellaire Area Chamber of Commerce office, 3287 Belmont St.

The All-American Days annual “Car and Cruise In” will take place in the park during the festival from 1-5 p.m. June 8 with registration at noon.

There will be dash plaques for the first 50 entrants plus a 50/50 drawing and trophies. Jeff Kreiter will provide music.

And the St. John Interact Club is organizing the inaugural Mike McFarland Memorial 5K Walk/Run in conjunction with All-American Days. It will begin at 9 a.m. June 8 at the fountain in the historic park. Registration forms are available at the mayor’s office or on St. John’s Facebook page.
