Bellaire council approves gazebo
BELLAIRE While it appears many love the new gazebo built in the south end of village park in Bellaire, it was brought to light its building was not done with council’s approval.
Councilman Jim Piatt sought to rectify that during Thursday’s village council meeting. Piatt motioned to have it officially approved.
“In order to keep with the rules, council has to approve any additions or corrections to the park,” Piatt said. “The gazebo is in place, without the council’s approval.
Therefore, I move this council approves the placing of the gazebo as a permanent structure in the park.”
Piatt’s motion passed 6-0.
Councilwoman Lou Ann Bennett explained the procedure for anyone wishing to use the park. She also explained she will be handling the booking.
If a church or community group wants to use it, they can do so with no charge for a deposit, Bennett noted. For a reunion or birthday party, etc., there will be a $100 deposit which will be returned once the gazebo is cleaned out following use and no damage has been done.
Bennett noted a number of people have already inquired into using the gazebo for a whole assortment of reasons.
Solicitor Joe Vavra told council that he is waiting on the Pultney Township Trustees and their resolution concerning the joint fire district formation for McMahon Valley FD before before initiating further discussion on council floor.
Council approved suspending the three reading rule for passing ordinances and resolutions and passed Resolution 997, a “resolution declaring rates for deduction withholdings for the Ohio Police and Fire Pension Fund.”
The rates were adjusted to: 10.75 for the remainder of 2013; 11.50 for 2014 and 12.25 percent starting July 12, 2015.
The resolution passed 6-0.
An additional resolution, plus another ordinance, were heard without movement and will go on to a third reading at the next council meeting.
The ordinance is to authorize the village to convey a .662-acre piece of property to the Belmont County Port Authority for economic development.
The resolution is to authorize the village to extend its current sewage disposal contract with the East Ohio Regional Wastewater Authority.
