Election board expands website

ST. CLAIRSVILLE – Director Bill Shubat informed members of the Belmont County Board of Elections Tuesday that the board’s website has been updated recently with various information as additions are continuing to be added to the site for voter information.

“Our website has expanded,” Shubat noted during the monthly elections board meeting at the board office in St. Clairsville. “We try to keep adding material to the site as we find a need for it.”

The website can be found by visiting

One bit of information that has been requested by multiple people is online access to past election absentee lists. That is now available.

Potential candidates also can find access to a candidate finance packet for their review. This should alleviate any questions about what needs to be filed by candidates in order to declare their campaign’s financial figures after an election.

Shubat also noted that precinct maps for all areas in Belmont County have been added to the site. In PDF format, voters need only click on their town of residence to pull up their respective precinct map.

In other matters, board president Frankie Carnes noted that the filing deadline of Aug. 7 at 4 p.m. is drawing closer.

Carnes also asked the board how many petitions have been submitted that will need reviewing by the July 15 petition deadline. Shubat noted that only five of six, thus far, have been submitted.

Shubat also told the board that, so far, two local options may go on the ballot and numerous villages have issues that may come up for a vote. Nothing has been finalized yet and Shubat is still putting a list together.

There will not be an August special election as no issues have been filed to come up for vote for any potential late summer election.

The next board meeting will be Monday, July 15 at 3 p.m. at the board office.
