Ferry board maps new year

MARTINS FERRY The Martins Ferry Board of Education held its regular meeting Monday and laid preparations for the next school year.

Board Member Nick Stankovich gave a legislative report touching on the progress of the Third Grade guarantee in Senate Bill 21. He noted he is keeping track of the changes in proposed legislation.

In regular business, the board accepted the resignation of Dan Bolock as eighth grade Washington D.C. Trip coordinator effective immediately. He will take a position at the high school.

Board members made resolutions to hire substitute teachers for the 2013-14 school year.

The board also motioned to hire coaches in track, softball and baseball. Rich Materkoski will be head track coach, with Dirk Fitch, Paul Matuska and Greg Steele as assistant coaches, George Kepreos as junior high coach and Javis Johnson as a volunteer.

Paige William will again be head softball coach, with Peri Powell as assistant coach, and Meagan Totterdale and Amanda White as volunteers

Anthony Reasbeck will be head baseball coach, with Sean Zeakes as reserve coach.

Board members motioned to hire Kasha Doyle, Dona Fortunato and Charity Stewart as substitute nurses and James Stefan as a substitute bus driver for the 2013-14 school year.

Joshua Cusick was approved a special education teacher in the elementary and Clay Tucker as a special education teacher in the middle school.

In other business, board motioned to accept students from Bellaire, Bridgeport, Buckeye Local, St. Clairsville, Shadyside, and Union Local through Interdistrict Open Enrollment.

Board approved a resolution for AP Government Class beginning the 2013-14 school year.

Board approved the ECOESC Services Contract Resolution for the 2013-14 school year.

Board approved a milk bid from United Dairy for the 2013-14 school year.

Board approved maternity leave for Rhonda Dalton.

Board approved middle school and high school Science and Social Studies curriculum guides.

Board approved STRS Resolutions to coincide with a one-percent employee increase effective July 1.

Board approved funds to cover the Ferrain Yearbook deficit. The district had owed about $36 hundred to the prior company. Fundraising efforts raised close to $1,896.

Board approved the student handbooks for elementary, middle school and high school.
