Buckeye BOE maps new year

DILLONVALE – A large portion of the monthly meeting of the Buckeye Local School District Board of Education focused on completing details needing addressed at the close of the 2012-13 school year as well as some items paving the way for the not too distant upcoming school year.

Among the items addressed at the Friday morning meeting were details to complete the purchase of a bus from Midvale Truck Sales & Service at a cost of $78,413, and is based on an OMERESA bidding process completed in late 2012.

Board members approved a resolution authorizing entrance into a service contract with the Jefferson County Educational Service Center to provide nursing services, alternative school, occupational therapy services, speech therapy services, visually impaired services, and a work study program.

Handbooks for coaches and another for band for the 2013-14 school year were approved by board members at Friday’s meeting.

All supplemental contracts, contracts for tutors and for all substitutes(short and long term – certified and non-certified were terminated as part of the standard practices at the close of the school year.

Board members accepted the resignation of Cynthia Vitek, South Elementary Preschool Teacher for the purpose of retirement, effective June 1, 2013.

The resignation of Daniel Mayhugh, mechanic was also accepted and was made effective as of May 23, 1023.

Actions approved at Friday’s meeting authorized the employment of Tricia Zaccagnini to teach English and Lucas Fabry to teach family and Consumer Science on a limited contract effective Aug. 19.

Janet Faulkner was hired as bus coordinator for the 2013-14 school year.

Employment of several certified personnel for special needs summer services were approved: Leanne Hutton, teacher and Leslie Adamsky, speech therapy.

Additionaly, the employment of William Stephens as chamber choir director was also approved at the meeting Friday.

Cindy Schooler’s employment as the 21st Century Grant Coordinator for the high school and elementary, and as parent coordinator through June 30, 2014 was approved with 100 percent of her salary being covered by federal funds. Her benefits package costs will be covered by the general fund.

A one-year administrative contract with Thomas Brown for his employment as an administrative coordinator was approved.

A memorandum of understanding establishing an “amicable resolution” between the Buckeye Local Classroom Teachers’ Association and the district concerning the athletic director grievance filed may 24, 2013.

Board approved actions to extend the current contract with Nutritian Inc. to provide food services to the district for the coming school year.

Three events concerning details of the upcoming school year were shared: the Back to School Bash will be held Aug. 11 from 3 to 5 p.m. at buckeye Local High School; teacher’s first day will be Aug. 19, and the student’s first day will be Aug. 20, 2013.

The next regularly scheduled meeting of the Buckeye Local School District Board of Education will be held Monday, Aug. 5 at the administrative offices in Dillonvale, with the meeting beginning at 6 p.m.
