St. C. council OKs meter resolution
ST. CLAIRSVILLE City council met Monday in the recreation center and held a voice vote approving a resolution to award the contract to Cooper Power for the automated meter project.
An official ordinance may be ready for formal reading by the next meeting. The project amount would come to $1,840,394.61.
Council also awarded a paving project to Shelly & Sands for $525,813.35. Service Director Dennis Bigler said they hope to complete the project before a heavy leaf drop. Council member Frank Sabatino asked if provisions could be made for the convenience of the school. Bigler said the city will make contact with the schools, make the contractors aware of the situation, and coordinate the work.
In other matters the utility department has received a new sewer get has been received. Also, city employees have assisted the pool, which has reported electrical problems with its equipment. Some of the equipment may need to be replaced.
City representatives are also meeting with an architectural firm for the purpose of replacing a leaky portion of the city building roof.
Regarding the fire district, Council Member Frank Sabatino reported with their insurance carrier. The next meeting will be held July 11, 4:30 p.m., following a budget meeting.
Also, council read a resolution declaring the necessity for a replacement levy with no increase and no decrease of a continuous tax in excess of the 10-mill limitation for current operating expenses of the city for a five-year period. The existing mill to be replaced is 1.95.
Council also read a resolution requesting the county auditor certify to the city the total current tax valuation of St. Clairsville and the dollar amount of revenue generated by 1.95 mills for current operating expenses for five years.
In addition, Law Director Al Davies is continuing to formulate and ordinance limited the number of parked vehicles permitted on the streets.
Council approved a request from the Glow4Goal 5-K run/walk Aug. 24 to benefit the American Cancer Society.
