Buckeye Local BOE to discuss safety
DILLONVALE – Members of the Buckeye Local School District Board of Education will hold their regular monthly meeting at the administrative offices in Dillonvale tonight. The meeting time has been adjusted for this gathering, and will not begin until 7 p.m., rather than at the usual time of 6 p.m.
One of the top items on the meeting agenda, under educational reports, is an anticipated update on what progress has been made by the district leadership in establishing a business relationship with the Mingo Junction headquartered and nationally recognized safety and security focused firm known as START, LLC.
The nationally ward winning business was founded several years ago and continues to be operated by area native and retired U.S. Navy SEAL Frank Hoagland.
Following the escalating level of violence seen tied to schools at the close of the academic year, board members reviewed several possible options and determined they wanted to establish a formal contract with Hoagland in order to get a professional assessment and suggested improvement proposal from him concerning the current resources and practices within the district as they relate to student and personnel safety.
Two other reports are also expected to be shared at tonight’s meeting: an update of the Title I Program and another reviewing the upcoming school bus routes.
An executive session is part of the anticipated agenda.
Various personnel matters are scheduled to come to the floor of the meeting including teaching assignments, after school program staff details, and coaching duties.
